Newborn Session Information

Newborns are my absolute favorite to photograph and definitely my specialty.
I do the majority of my newborn photos with the babies in their natural state – naked, but with some fun additions that I have around my studio. Their “parts” are strategically covered. If you have a favorite blanket or something you would like included in a photo, please feel free to bring it, but you will not need to bring outfits for baby. All of the adorable hats and headbands you see on my website are all here at my home-studio, so you will not have to provide any of that. I have a ton of them
You will also want to feed baby right before your drive to the studio. That way, baby will sleep well on the way and hopefully keep asleep during the session. We want baby to be sleepy so that I can get them formed into adorable poses, somewhat like they were in your belly. Try to keep baby awake as much as possible during the day prior to your session as best as you can.
Don’t be surprised if you need to nurse or bottle feed baby several times during our session. Newborn sessions take a few hours, depending on how the baby tolerates me moving him or her into different positions, etc.
During newborn sessions, I keep my studio at a toasty temperature to keep the baby nice and warm while they are naked. Please keep this in mind when getting ready for your session. I suggest dressing in layers so you can peel them away if you get warm.
I understand that two to three hours can feel like a long time, especially in a warm studio. Because of this, I have furnished my studio with a rest area for my clients. Kick your feet up and relax on the couch and watch some television. I also provide wireless internet access so bring your laptop, iPad, or other electronic device and connect to the Internet.
*** If you would like a few shots of your newborn with a sibling, I ask that you please plan to have another person available that can follow you over to the studio and then take the sibling home right after those quick shots are done. There is not an extra charge as it only takes about 5-10 minutes. This way, I can keep the studio a quiet and calm environment for your baby.
What to Bring to your Session:
- Please bring a pacifier – even if you have not introduced one, or if baby rarely uses one at home, still bring one. Pacifiers can make a HUGE difference if baby is fighting falling asleep, or is in a crying mood. This is very important!
- You will not need outfits – newborns do not photograph well in outfits as they are so very tiny and the outfit takes over. The emphasis it to be on baby, not an outfit.
- I do not use very many “props”, accept for the ones that you have seen on my website. Again, I want the emphasis to be the baby. I will provide adorable hats and head accessories - feel free to bring your own of you have some that you would like to use. If you want to bring a football, baseball, glove or bat, please feel free.
* Remember to bring your session cost payable in cash or check. Credit card may be used prior to your session – contact me for those payment details.
* Please, no cameras or other recording devices to be used during session. Thank You
If you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact me via my website.
Thanks so much!
